Hi Fierce & Fashionable readers! I’m Alyssa, popping over from The Glossy Life to bring you a fun post while Michelle is out of town. I was so excited when Michelle reached out, first because she’s so sweet and I love her little blog space, but also because she made the whole week Valentine’s Day themed–so fun!
I’m a firm believer that the quickest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach (and also that this rule extends to pretty much every person, not just guys). I knew I wanted to come up a cute, edible DIY, and this ombre mason jar cupcake was the perfect fit.
I have an amazing go-to recipe (http://sweetapolita.com/2012/08/whipped-vanilla-dream-cupcakes/) that makes a delicious and moist vanilla cupcake (and frosting)–perfect for dyeing various shades of pink and red for the ombre effect.
Once you’ve baked the cupcakes and allowed them to cool, slice each one in half–you’ll need four of these halves to fill a small mason jar (in other words, four cupcakes will fill two mason jars).
Layer the cupcakes into the mason jar, alternating with a bit of frosting (it’s easiest if you put the frosting into a pastry bag and pipe it into the mason jar). Top the final layer of frosting with sprinkles.
Wrap the top of the mason jar with a piece of fabric or burlap and ribbon. If you do use burlap, be sure to saran wrap the top of the jar before you put it on–you don’t want anyone getting little burlap fibers in their cupcakes!
Finish off with a pretty tag and Valentine’s Day message. Enjoy (and thanks for having me, Michelle)!
Oh my goodness, how adorable! Thank you Alyssa, they turned out wonderful!
